Language Quiz help

Learn words in a new language a few minutes at a time. Starting with Samoan.

What this does

It quizzes you on words, ten at a time, with four answers to pick from. That is it. No account, no streaks, no ads.

Think of it like a stack of flashcards that sorts itself. Cards you get right move to the back and wait a while. Cards you miss go back on top and show up again soon. Over a few days, the words you struggle with get the most practice.

How to use it

  1. Pick a language, then a direction: Samoan to English (see the Samoan word, pick what it means) or English to Samoan (the other way round).
  2. Pick a topic, or All topics to mix everything.
  3. Tap an answer, or press 1 to 4 on a keyboard. You find out straight away, and if you missed, the right answer is shown.
  4. Tap Next, or press Enter. A word you missed comes back once more later in the same round.
  5. At the end you see your score and the words to work on. Practice these again replays just those.

Due for review

When some words are ready to be practiced again, a Due for review button appears at the top of the topic list. Start there when you come back: it is the quickest way to make words stick.

Each direction is tracked separately, because knowing what a Samoan word means is not the same as being able to recall it from English.

About the Samoan spelling

Samoan uses two marks that change meaning: the macron, a line over a vowel that makes it long (ā), and the ʻokina, a small reversed apostrophe that marks a short catch in the voice (faʻafetai). You will see both in the quiz.

The starter word list is a draft. It has not been checked by a fluent speaker yet, so treat it as a helper, not an authority. If you spot a mistake, please let us know.

Common questions

Does it work offline?
Yes. Once the page has loaded, it keeps working without a connection.
Can I install it like an app?
Yes. On Android or a computer, use Install app or Add to Home screen in the browser menu. On iPhone, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen.
My progress is gone.
Progress lives in the browser you used. A different phone, a different browser, private browsing, or clearing site data each start fresh.
Is there audio?
Not yet. Good Samoan pronunciation needs recordings of a real speaker, and that is planned for later.
Will other languages be added?
Yes. The quiz works for any language; each new one is just another word list.
